How to End Confusion and Tame the Disaster Zone in Your Master Keyword List
Do you have a Master Keyword List Disaster Zone? Here is how
to solve the problem, and find the perfect Niche related Site Structure to build
around and grow with.
When I am gifted with a new client, who has a Keyword disaster happening in
their Master Keyword List (MKL), I first read the Order Form to see exactly what
their most wanted response is, and anything special they are asking for. Upon
first login I typically find (about 95% of the time), that every topic they are
considering for their site is under one main SeedWord. I will use an Essential
Oils site here as my example of what I do, and how I do it.
When arriving in the site MKL, I saw the 500+ keywords under Essential Oils;
about 50 were under ‘Added Keywords’. Those are usually the afterthought words
specifically added by the client about their topic. I remove those by copying
them into my Notepad to add later under the correct SeedWords.
I begin with my first ‘Filter search’ for all words related to and including the
words-aroma, therapy, fragrance, diffuse, etc. I export those to a notepad list
named Aromatherapy-then delete them. I did the same with the keywords related to
wholesale and whole sale, exporting those to my list for another SeedWord
BrainstormIt session. I repeated this process until I had multiple lists with
separate SeedWord options-one for each topic, and nothing left on my Essential
Oils SeedWord that was not directly related, or used the exact words.
By deleting these from my ‘ALL Keyword’ or entire Master Keyword list, I am
insuring the way for the BrainstormIt to add those to the right place
later…under the new SeedWord. If it word already exists elsewhere in the MKL, it
will not go in twice, thus making a very confusing MKL later when you are
looking for a particular topic’s words to use.
I continue deleting words that have no value to our topics. Fair warning, I have
been coined as the “Keyword Queen”, and as a Keyword Specialist, I rarely settle
for anything less than 1000-2000 Demand and Profitability. I refer to this
process as “The Keyword Haircut”…and some get a scalping.
I begin to see a pattern emerging, a site structure included. This client’s
monetization plan included wholesale personal care products, so I filtered for a
new SeedWord (category-Tier) such as bath, skin care, health related. Here is an
example of my Filtering and dividing ‘bath’ keywords to make them manageable.
The number columns are sorted by Demand, Supply, and Profitability.
bath foam-81 597 136
bath salt recipes -2937 645 4553
bath salts recipe- 881 61 14443‘Bath foam’ was obviously deleted from our
list-less than 1000 in both Demand and Profitability.
‘Bath salts recipe’ falls a bit short of my usual 1000 Demand, but could be used
in the article too.
The keeper would be, ‘bath salt recipes’. It has a great Demand, and wonderful
profitability.
Here are just a few of the keyword phrases I found in the MKL that had to do
with “wholesale”. I had already searched my ‘ALL’ keywords and deleted any to
make room, then did a SeedWord BrainstormIt and finally added the copied list of
words that related to it. I did my Filter again and deleted unrelated or lower
valued to the site. Here are just two that I kept for pages.
wholesale essential oil -3174 421 7539
wholesale fragrance oil -5314 773 6875
With my main SeedWords for the site Concept in place, and all these great
related keywords listed under them, I continue adding back all my copied lists,
making 100% sure each is placed in the right SeedWord Option.
I will repeat myself again, if you are not afraid to delete anything under 1000
Demand, and 1000 Profitability, use your dictionary and thesaurus, and just keep
working with new derivatives of the lower words, all your site keywords can be
ranked like these.
